BBA (Tourism and Travel)
- Bachelor in Business Administration (Tourism & Travel) is offered by Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh. This Degree shall be called Bachelor in Business Administration (Tourism & Travel) BBA (TT).
- IITTM is an organisation of Ministry of Tourism, Govt. Of India. IGNTU is a central University established by Ministry of HRD. This programme of IITTM shall focus on tourism and related contemporary areas.
Objectives of BBA (Tourism & Travel)
- To provide the basic and essential knowledge regarding various activities undertaken by tourism industry and necessary knowledge and skill to work in the industry.
- To impart certain basic skills and aptitude which will be useful in taking up any activity in Tourism Industry.
- To develop the personality so as to become responsible citizen with greater awareness about the Indian society and its culture.
- To provide a global view of several multinational tourism business houses and their functions.
- To provide knowledge, skill and attitude to set up tourism related establishment.
Duration
- The programme is for six semesters spread over three years. There shall be 90 days classroom study in each semester.
Eligibility
- Any candidate who has passed the +2 the higher secondary board or equivalent.
Programme Structure
- The total number of modules in BBA (Tourism & Travel) programme is 26, which is spread through 140 credits. In the first and second semester 5 module are compulsory. In 3rd semester, module number: 301 to 303 are compulsory and one will be elected as Generic Elective from Module No: 304. The Module No: 401 to 403 of 4th semester are compulsory and from Module No: 404, one paper will be elected as Generic Elective. Intervening period between Fourth and Fifth semester shall be used for summer internship for 6-8 weeks in an industrial/business unit. In 5th semester, Module No: 501 to 503 are compulsory and from 504 Module, one module will be elected by the students as DSE. In sixth semester, Module No: 601 to 603 are compulsory. The students will visit any destination/site to prepare the project i.e. module number : 603. One elective will be elected by the student from 604 module as DSE.
Scheme of instruction
- There shall be SIX semesters of taught courses including summer internship.
- Total credits for the programmes is 140 which are equivalent to 26 courses. Each credit is of 1-hour classroom teaching in a week and 15 hrs in a semester. For a six credit theory module, 90 classroom teaching and for a practical six credit module 180 hrs field teaching are needed.
Evaluation
- Evaluation of student in each course would be as follows unless and otherwise mentioned specifically for a particular course.
- Internal evaluation 40% & External exam 60%
Specializations to be offered
- BBA (TT) programme shall offer specialisation in the 3rd , 4th, 5th and 6th semester.Institute however, depending upon its resources, shall decide whether or not to offer a particular specialisation in any academic session.
Attendance
- Students are expected to put in as much attendance as possible as it is an integral part of learning. A minimal attendance of 75% is mandatory.
Minimum number of classes per week/per paper
- Each of the courses shall have an obligation normally equal to or equivalent to 1 hour per week per credit to achieve 15 hrs classes per credit in a semester. Accordingly classes can be multiplied into the credit allocated to the concerned module. Chairperson shall organise non-credit course, seminars, syndicated exercises, assignments, study tours, etc. as and when required.
Programme structure
- Curriculum development is a continuous process. Course structures change in the larger interest of industry, students and profession.
MBA (Tourism and Travel)
- Our programs incorporate both subject-specific and generic business modules and have been designed to reflect industry practices and academic developments. Each of our existing courses touches upon tourism as a business activity – the organization, dimensions, social significance and impact of tourism are studied.
- With entry profiles ranging from beginners to advanced levels, our programs are tailor made to meet the present need of the tourism industry. Learners are supported at every stage of learning and career development.
- Two- year full-time Master of Business Administration in Tourism & Travel Management and Bachelor of Business Administration in Tourism & Travel (As per the MoU signed for collaboration with IGNT University – Ministry of HRD, Govt. Of India) are offered with specializations for learners to enable them to acquire the right skill set with ample flexibility to adapt to employing the organization’s needs.
Generic Electives
- As part of Choice Based Credit System, Students enrolled in the program are required to opt for at least two courses from outside the Department. Such credits would be transferred to the parent department for calculation of total credit points earned by a student.
Open Electives
- The Department of Tourism Management, depending upon the available resources, offer electives from the designated elective groups, subject to fulfilment of minimum requirements as per the CBCS guidelines. There shall be six such elective groups namely; Tour Operation Management, Event Management, Special Interest Tourism, Cargo Management, Logistics Management, Air fares & Ticketing. Each group shall have three courses under it to be offered from the batch 2017-19 onwards. The Department may either offer one course from the given electives or the group with all three courses as a specialization.
Study Tour, Report & Viva-Voce
- Study Tour shall be offered to the students as a compulsory component. The objective of the study tour is to give exposure to the students about attraction and resources available at a tourist destination of repute. Students shall have to submit the final report within 15 days of completion of the tour and the viva-voce for the same shall be conducted during the third semester examinations. The credits assigned to this paper shall be distributed in the ratio of 4:2 for report and viva-voce respectively.
Summer Training, Report & Viva-Voce
- Summer Training, Report & viva-voce component shall be a compulsory component for the students. Each student shall have to undergo 6-week or One-and-half months (June-July) long training in Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Organizations under the guidance of a faculty advisor. The objective of this is to create an opportunity for the students to undergo training in the Travel Agency, Tour Operation, Tourism Information Office, Hotels/Resorts. Such training would help students to understand customer services along with administrative, financial and marketing aspects of travel business. The credits assigned to this paper shall be distributed in the ratio of 4:2 for project report and viva-voce respectively.
On the Job Training, Report & Viva-Voce
- Each student shall have to undergo 10-weeks or two-and-half months (February-April) long training in Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Organizations during the Fourth Semester under the guidance of a faculty advisor. On completion of the training, the student must submit a certificate to this effect duly signed by manager/official of the company. The training report must be submitted in triplicate within 15 days of the completion of training. The Head of Department shall notify the date of submission of the report. A student must submit the copy of the report in triplicate. The report must include a certificate of original work carried out by the student duly signed by the candidate, faculty advisor or guide and the Head of the Department.
- The Training Report and Viva-Voce Examination shall be evaluated by one external examiner and one internal examiner. The list of external examiners is to be submitted by the department for approval by the competent authority through proper channel. The Training Report and Viva-Voce Examination shall be evaluated from a total of 200 marks in the ratio of 4:2 respectively.
